How to Know When to Switch Your Health Plan

Some health insurance companies auto-enroll you in to your same plan year after year. But as we all know, things can change so quickly. Therefore, you should make sure your health plan reflects those changes. Taking some time to look over your circumstances allows you to make important changes during the open enrollment period. We will be looking over how to know when to switch your health plan.

Your insurance is no longer accepted by your doctor. Finding the perfect doctor who makes us feel safe and comfortable is a tough feat. But they may not always accept your plan. The type of health insurance plans that doctors accept is constantly changing. And if you try to go to them without being covered it will leave you with a shockingly high bill.

Rising prices. The rates are not guaranteed to stay the same year after year. Even if you stay enrolled in the same plan. Trying to find a similar option where you can pay less might be the best bet.

Preventive care is not covered. Preventive care such as flu shots, blood pressure screenings, and other things that keep you healthy are meant to be covered by most health plans for no cost. Although, if you have been with your health plan for a few years, it might be considered grandfathered and does not have to abide by those rules.

No coverage of prescriptions. Health insurance plans can decide if they no longer cover certain prescriptions. They can even alter the amount of the price that they cover. So, to be sure if they will still cover your medication for the next year, give them a call and ask. The answer to that question will tell you whether or not you want to stick with that health plan.

Not the right level of care. You should always take the time to review the financial and care needs of the past year. Paying full price for many hospital visits and prescriptions might mean you need to look into better overall coverage. Having an expensive plan with rare hospital visits might mean a cheaper option with higher deductibles.
