The Perfect Remedy

There are many natural plants, herbs, and spices understood to be beneficial to one’s health. Black seed oil, also known as black caraway or black cumin, has been shown to have many antioxidative properties among other incredible and surprising benefits!

Up until 3 years ago, I had never heard of black seed oil, but my dad had always been interested in creating home remedies with raw and whole ingredients normally found around the kitchen, such as turmeric, coconut oil, and oregano. The day my dad’s interest became fully realized was around the same time my sister was diagnosed with mononucleosis. Mononucleosis, also known as mono, is a virus caused by the spreading of saliva. This virus is most commonly spread by kissing, and even drinking or eating after someone who has the virus. The vast majority of people who catch mono only have minor symptoms such as fatigue, fever, sore throat, and headaches, usually lasting for only a few days.

My sister’s symptoms consisted of a high fever, swollen tonsils, a splotchy red throat, migraines, blurry vision, and extreme fatigue. These symptoms lasted for over a week. Miserable and unsure of what to do to help her body recover, she turned to dad for help. He went straight to his medicine cabinet, determined to see if he could help her symptoms subside. He then came across black seed oil and was struck with inspiration for the perfect remedy: a fruit smoothie full of beneficial nutrients such as berries for inflammation and antioxidants, oranges for vitamin C, bananas for potassium and prebiotics, and flax seeds for protein. Adding black seed oil into the mixture would create magic!

The Truth Behind Black Seed Oil

Black seed oil is derived from a plant that grows in eastern Europe and western Asia. The plant, Nigella Sativa, produces flowers of the most beautiful shade of periwinkle blue. It’s in these lovely blooms that the titular black seeds are contained. When the seeds are pressed, they produce a nutrient-rich oil that is commonly used on its own as an oral supplement, inside food, or as a topical skin serum for skincare purposes. In fact, it is rumored that archaeologists found black seeds laying in King Tut’s tomb, so it’s entirely possible that this plant has been used in natural remedies for thousands of years!

Black seed oil has shown great results in treating some of the most common health conditions including high blood pressure, asthma, and inflammation. There are a plethora of benefits that come with the consumption and/or topical use of this oil, including:

  • Reduced high blood pressure
  • Decreased asthma symptoms (helps eliminate inflammation in the airways and bronchial tubes)
  • Decreased rheumatoid arthritis
  • Lessened bloating, gas, stomach pain, and menstrual cramps
  • Improved fertility
  • Thickened, hydrated hair
  • Softened skin and lessened wrinkles
  • Internal and external wound healing
  • Reduced acne breakouts

Lifestyle Changes

By adding black seed oil into the fruit smoothie, my dad eliminated over half of the symptoms my sister had been dealing with. After drinking the smoothie, her only remaining symptoms were slightly swollen cheeks and a subtle headache. Pretty great recovery if you ask me! She was finally able to sleep and relax instead of thinking about the pain from before.

Seeing the benefits of black seed oil, I decided to start incorporating it into my lifestyle and have seen amazing results in just a few months! My preferred method is placing a few drops of the oil underneath my tongue for a few seconds to help with activation, or even just putting a few drops in 8oz of water to drink quickly in the morning. My skin is clearer and plumper, bloating has greatly decreased, and quite honestly, it has made me feel like a new person, as it did to my sister!

If you are interested in the benefits of using black seed oil, make sure you are selecting a high-quality product from a reliable and trusted source. And, as always, be sure to consult with a licensed physician for professional advice about safe ways to include a new supplement into your lifestyle.
