They Insured What? The Weirdest Insurance Policies

Whether it be life insurance, car insurance, or home insurance, people get coverage to protect something valuable just in case the worst were to happen. There is no telling what each person holds most valuable. So, it is no surprise that some people would insure some wild things.

I have compiled a list of some of the weirdest insurance policies, and I assure you will want to keep reading.

The Tongue. Gene Simmons, a prominent member of one of the most popular bands, KISS, insured his tongue for $1 million. If you know KISS, then you can understand that price point!

Abduction Policies. If you are concerned about getting abducted by aliens, then this is for you. Alien abduction insurance is put in place to cover your expenses should you be kidnapped by extraterrestrials or other non-human life forms. An insurance provider has claimed to have written over 20,000 of these policies.

Crossed Eyes. A comedian in the 1920s insured his crossed eyes. The comic sought the $25,000 policy because he was concerned that if his eyes ever became uncrossed, he may lose his celebrity status. After all, standing out is key in Hollywood.

Falling Coconuts. Following the claim that 150 people yearly die from falling coconuts, a UK travel company took out a policy should anyone become injured by the falling fruit. A customer visiting Sri Lanka was hit on the head by a falling coconut and made a successful claim.

Double Trouble. If you have been surprised by an extra baby at birth, you could have used Multiple Birth Insurance. It covers the financial impact of having more than one baby. A couple received a payout after having twins, purchased the policy again, and had another set of twins!

Hitting the Jackpot. The chances of winning the lottery are slim to none. However, there is a policy to protect against the cost of an employee quitting because they won big. Better to be safe than sorry.

While you may not have a unique body part you want to protect or no plans of having multiples, you should always have protection in place for the things that matter. Talk to a licensed insurance agent and find a policy that works well for you.
