The summer season allows you to enjoy many pleasant outdoor activities. Some of your favorite pastimes may include kayaking, hiking, nature strolls, and having a family barbecue in your backyard. Unfortunately, some familiar uninvited guests might arrive at your event. Mosquitos can disrupt the happiness of outdoor activities, but how do you keep them away from you? Artificial mosquito and bug repellents contain harmful chemicals that can hurt you, your children, and other family members. Are there ways to naturally keep away mosquitoes from bothering your summer fun? Yes, there are multiple options.

Keep Mosquitos away with Apple Cider Vinegar and Water solution.

You may already know that consuming apple cider vinegar has multiple health benefits. Did you know that applying apple cider vinegar to your body can also free you of mosquito harassment? Mosquitos and other bugs have highly sensitive receptors that become irritated with strong scents; applying apple cider vinegar to your skin should keep the mosquitos away from you. Since apple cider vinegar is so acidic, you must make a solution of equal parts water and apple cider vinegar to protect yourself from mosquitos and avoid burning your skin. Some experts say you should combine four parts of water with one part of apple cider vinegar for safer skin treatment. Apple cider vinegar is antibacterial and antifungal. So, you are also cleaning and refreshing your skin. Furthermore, ants find apple cider vinegar disrupts their senses, so spraying the solution on or near ants can keep them from bothering your outdoor activities.

Eliminate Mosquitos with Lavender.

Artificial bug repellents boast natural elements like lavender in their products, but it remains wiser and healthier to apply a more natural method. You can make a homemade lavender solution quite easily. Professionals recommend adding two tablespoons of carrier oil such as almond, jojoba, argan, or avocado oil in a small bottle or jar. Then, add 10-20 drops of lavender essential oil. Next, shake the container and rub in a small portion of oil on your skin.

For any skin treatment, test the solution on a small patch of your skin to ensure no irritation appears.

Does it really work?

Professional research also backs the claims of naturally ridding yourself of mosquitos with natural elements. In 2019, a group of researchers studied plant-based essential oils’ effectiveness in repelling mosquitos, including lavender, camphor, catnip, geranium, jasmine, broad-leaved eucalyptus, lemongrass, lemon-scented eucalyptus, amyris, narrow-leaved eucalyptus, carotin, cedarwood, chamomile, cinnamon oil, juniper, cajeput, soya bean, rosemary, niaouli, olive, tagetes, violet, sandalwood, litsea, galbanum, and Curcuma longa. The scientists found these elements to repel mosquitos for up to eight hours. They also discovered the most effective plant repellent was Ligusticum sinense extract, followed by citronella, pine, Dalbergia sissoo, peppermint and Rhizophora mucronata oils with complete protection time ranging from 9.1 to 11.5 [hours].”
